Annalise scrambled to her feet, watching Dao magically get a sword and her hand went up to her necklace without having to about it. But- she hesitated. Would it give her away? Her eyes found the scorpion as it scuttled closer to them and she breathed out, closing her eyes, she gripped her necklace tightly, and felt the metal warm under her fingers. She pulled at the charm and it came off, already morphing into her 6ft tall stygian iron scythe. She gripped it, spinning it around once, breath coming out easier - she always felt safer with it in her hands.

Athus saw Analise scramble up, hesitate, and finally pull out her weapon of choice, what looked to be a stygian iron scythe. A formidable weapon, for sure. But Athus had no time to appreciate weapons right now. The garnet adorning one side of his bastard sword's hilt was glowing blood red, as was usual when he was angered by anything. The giant scorpion was now completely out of the trees. Its large claws and long flexible tail were in full view, glinting in the sun as it caught the scorpion's armor. Athus stared it down.

"Today is so not my day." She grumbled, flipping her scythe over once more for good measure. Even after two months, Annalise hadn't been in enough 'battles' (and didn't that make it all sound like a video game) to be completely comfortable, but she'd trained enough to not panic. Well, outwardly. Her inner thoughts were something along the lines of, ohmydearsweetlordwhythehelldoesascorpionthatbigexist.

"This is too convenient..." Athus whispered to himself. The scorpion was watching the two of them, and Athus was watching the scorpion. "You kill a monster before?" He asks Annalise without looking over to her.

"Ah..." Well, she'd thrown her scythe at it and it had poofed, if that counted. She'd been screaming in fear while it had happened though. "Technically speaking?"

"If the monster turned into gross golden looking dust, you killed it. Simple." Athus said as the scorpion started what sounded to him like cackling. That didn't sound good. "So have you or not?" He asked and took a risky move. He took his eyes off the scorpion, turning a cold glare at Annalise.

Annalise resisted the urge to glare back, grip on her scythe tightening. "Then yes, the world is one fury less thanks to my heroic escapedes." She snarked. She had a tendency to be a tad... biting when scared. Or panicked. Or nervous. She blamed Ray.

"Well, she'll probably reform soon, but for the moment she's gone. So. Do you want to take distraction or the tail?" Athus says coldly as he turns back to stare down the scorpion. He saw the scorpion coming a few steps closer. And a giant scorpion's step is quite large. It covered half the ground. He also thought he heard another set of scorpion feet somewhere farther off, but wasn't sure if it really was there.

Distraction? Yeah, no. Not happening. "I'll take the tail." She supplied weakly. Ohhh this thing was bitter than she'd thought.

"Alright then." Athus ran straight towards the giant scorpion. Thankfully the scorpion already had its eyes trained on Athus. He'd started to flourish his sword, but the giant scorpion was having none of that. With one of its huge ugly claws, it grabbed Athus's bastard sword by the blade and yanked it out of his hand. "Damn, I'm out of practice."

Annalise grimaced, running around the edge of the field in an attempt to get behind the scorpion without catching it's attention. Oh, this was going to be lots of fun.

Athus did his best to not get killed without his sword. It wasn't enchanted to return to his hand ever unless he willed it while it was in his grip. But that required him to have a grip on it right now, which might be a little bit difficult to do while a giant scorpion held on to it with a giant damned claw. "It's a crying shame that my powers don't work right on monsters!" Athus yelled in frustration.

Annalise's eyes had been narrowed, trying to find the best moment to strike, and she flinched upon hearing Dao's words. Her... powers, so to speak, worked great on monsters. But... she was summoning them to combat them, and really how was that any better? No, she could do this without using them.

Athus was staring the scorpion in it's unnaturally large, beady black eyes. He started taunting it with no less than his worst insults that are probably not right for children's ears. The scorpion threw his sword sideways, almost knocking him off his feet. Athus rolled out of the way, and his sword flew right over his head, thankfully not harming him on its way towards wherever. He'd have to remind himself to grab that later.

Annalise narrowly avoided yelping as she saw Dao's sword fly. Well, that was bad. And by bad she meant wow-they-were-going-to-die-a-scorpion-related-death horrible. Anna tightened her grip on her scythe and closed her eyes for a moment, before stepping into the Shadow Realm. She didn't know if everyone saw the same thing, but to her it was a place where nothing existed, while everything existed. Time slowed and sped up at random intervals, she could feel, see, and even smell the smoky black tendrils caressing her skin as she teleported within the realm. She stepped out of the shadow right behind the scorpion and lifted her scythe, attempting to cut off it's tail even as she was slightly blinded by the sudden brightness.

Athus saw annalise suddenly behind the scorpion. shadow travel must be helpful he thought. A shame he couldn't do it himself, then he could get his sword and be right back. He could just barely see that Annalise's scythe cut the scorpion's tail. The scorpion wailed at the pain, and started to charge. Athus decided to kick off the ground, and stomped on the scorpion's eyes, just for good measure. The thing clattered forward and dissolved into golden dust. "Gross," Athus said.

Annalise let out a relieved sigh, falling to the ground on her butt in a clumsy heap. The adrenaline was already beginning to drain and that, along with the hour or so of running earlier, had added up. She was utterly exhausted. "Good job." She called out after a moment.

"Thanks. You did a good job with that scythe, too." He called to her as he went to grab his sword. The damned scorpion had almost crushed it. Thankfully it wasn't bent out of shape. He noticed that the scorpion's giant stinger was still as rock, laying next to the track. "You want to keep that piece of crap, or do you want to toss it?" He asks annalise as he comes closer, turning his sword back into his ring.

Annalise wrinkled her nose. "Toss it - I swear I"ll never understand why people want to keep, well, dead-thing-parts as trophies."

"Rightio then." Athus grabber the tip of the stinger with care. He wasn't the strongest person at camp, but somehow the stinger felt extremely light weight. He hefted it up with ease, and like an olympian athlete taking a shot at the hammer toss, spun once, and let the stinger fly far into the woods. Whatever happened to that afterwards, he didn't care. "That was a good workout."

Annalise gave him a weird look. "I hope that didn't hit anyone - it would probably kill them." Oh wait, merciless warriors and psychopaths, right.

"Nah. That thing was unnaturally light. It might land on someone, but it won't kill them. Unless it lands stinger down on them. That might kill them." He says in a calmed tone. The fight with the scorpion had taken the edge off his anger, but he wasn't totally calm now. He sighed and sat down. "I thought i heard another one earlier, but i think it was just passing by."

Annalise gave him a blink look - how can anyone be so blasé about killing someone? Just- crazy. Everyone here was crazy. And anyway- "Don't monsters have to be, you know, summoned-" She winced slightly at that wording, because summoning was definitely a word that could be applied to her 'powers,' "To get into the camp?" Because Annie was pretty sure that was mentioned...

Athus noticed her wince when she said the word summoned. Curious. "The woods are stocked with monsters. Sometimes they wander out, but normally they stay in the woods." He said. "But, yes, they can also be summoned into camp by someone giving them permission. Anyone can summon a monster from outside the boundaries."

"Ah, that isn't a very good idea is it?" Because that just reeked of trouble, what with all the utterly insane people here. She really was the only sane one here. That... was kind of frightening.
