| "I, uh, well, yes, you are," Carmen managed, feeling flustered enough that a light pink colored his otherwise pale skin. Ugh, no, he hated when he was embarrassed enough to flush, it only ever served to heighten his self-consciousness. He looked away, and stammered out a quiet "Sorry," in case he'd offended her or anything. | |

| Annalise laughed loudly, cut off by a loud snort which she choked on, covering her mouth with lightly tinted skin. She muttered an apology, glancing to the side. She couldn't believe she had snorted. On the other hand, this guy was adorable. He also seemed slightly flamboyantly gay, but she didn't buy into sterotypes very often. Though, she had caught Luca with the teacher's very male assistant, so it was possible. "It's alright." She responded, waving off his apology. | |

| Carmen had looked back in time to see the glory of Annalise's snort. While the snort wasn't very cute, her slightly embarrassed reaction was. Why were girls just so adorable? It wasn't fair especially since... well, since he couldn't exactly have a relationship with one without very possibly killing the poor unfortunate soul. In any case, she seemed self-conscious about her laugh and snort, and Carmen wanted to say something to make her feel better. He couldn't think of anything that wouldn't sound overly forward or cheesy. | |

| The following silence was fairly awkward, so Annalise looked across the lake, watching the light dance across the surface of the water. Her toes skimmed the surface and she began absently tapping her fingers on the dock. What should she say? She always hated silences - they felt so stressed and uncomfortable. | |

| Carmen needed to think of something to say quickly, before things got more awkward. He decided on a nice, simple, "You never really answered the question." Hopefully he didn't sound accusatory. Making friends was hard work, and he didn't want to ruin the little progress he'd made so far. | |

| Oh, right. Annalise stewed for a moment, biting the inside of her cheek. What should she say? Even after two months, she hadn't really made any friends here - it was hard talking to them. Drakkons and Furies and Hydras - it was hard enough accepting that they exists. God parents? Please - everyone who knew hers would freak out. She didn't want to scare this guy, Carmen, off. He seemed nice. So, should she lie?
"Ah, Thanatos." She answered, a pang of guilt blossoming in her chest. Sorry, she whispered mentally. | |

| Annalise had seemed sort of apprehensive before she answered. Maybe she thought that people didn't like children of the god of death? Did people here judge others not only on if their parent was a god or titan, but on what kind of god or titan their parent was? If she asked Carmen who his parent was, she'd probably run away screaming if this was the case. He hoped to high heaven that she would not ask. "That's cool," he commented, and tried hard to think of something to make sure conversation wouldn't veer in his direction. "What kind of powers does that give you? I mean, assuming you have any. No powers is cool, too." Gods, he was so lame. | |

| Annalise winced - of all the questions to ask. And he hadn't even said who his parent was, not that she really got how it mattered. Aphrodite or Kronos, it wasn't like parents affected your personality. "Ah..." Was powers did a Thanatos kid get? Crap, she should have said Aphrodite or something. Wait, no- she snorted. Mentally. Like she could pass for an Aphrodite child, right. All the kids in the cabin were like supermodels. Couldn't Thantos kids shadow travel too? Right, go with that. "I can shadow travel." | |

| Oh, no, she didn't look very happy. Wrong conversation topic, abort. Revert to apologizing. "Er, sorry if I sort of pried, there. Just didn't know what to talk about." Yeah, honesty was probably good right then. Honesty was almost always good. Would it be the best policy if she asked about his parentage, though? Carmen could probably pass for a Hades kid with unusual powers if he had to, but he hated lying. | |

| She waved her hands idly. "No, no it's fine, I'm just, ah, new at all of this." She admitted. twirling a strand of hair around her finger. "I've only known all of - this - existed for about two months." And didn't she miss not knowing. Annalise wondered what Ray was doing now, without the extra income. | |

| "Ah." Even though it had been what, six years? Carmen still remembered the confusion he'd felt upon waking from the dream that had marked him as a demititan. It probably would have been worse if he'd grown up with an actual family, but since he'd been a foster kid, he'd accepted it pretty quickly. He'd always hoped, when he was young, that the reason he had no family was because he was special. Unfortunately, he'd been right. | |

| "Ah." She mimicked him, bringing her feet out of the water and tucking them under her. "So, how long have you known about... everything?" Annalise asked, not sure whether she hoped the answer was 'since last week' or 'i've always know.' It would be nice to have someone in the same boat as her, but it would also be nice to know someone who could answer her questions. | |

| "Since I was thirteen. So, I guess, about six years." When he said it like that, he felt old. It was still difficult to comprehend the idea that he was an adult, even though he'd be twenty in a few months. Aging was ridiculous. It was also ridiculous how his thoughts kept wandering off on tangents like this. It was highly unrealistic for a real conversation. | |

| Annalise blinked at him. "Whoa- wait, you're nineteen?" Her eyebrows raised. She'd thought he was about her age - not that seventeen was really younger than Carmen's age. | |

| Carmen answered with a nod. "Yeah. I'll be twenty in February." Did he not look his age? He supposed looking young would be a benefit once he got a lot older, but for now, it was mildly irritating. It'd be nice if he at least looked eighteen, so it wouldn't be all that surprising once people found out his actual age. | |

| Annalise raised a eyebrow. "Wow, you're old." She commented, before a mischievous smile quirked at her lips. "Is that a grey hair I see? And are those crows feet forming?" Joking around about someone's age always reminded her of Ray, back when her pseudo-mother turned thirty. She'd been fine about it until waking up one more and screaming about grey hair. Annalise had never let her live it down. | |

| Carmen actually laughed. Great, she was cute and funny. It would be best if he stopped talking to her before he started developing a crush. Romantic feelings were bad, bad things when they could kill someone. But he didn't want to stop talking to Annalise. She was nice, and nice people were few and far between. | |

| Annalise chucked, making sure not to snort this time, because snorting was bad. She wondered vaugely if Carmen had a boyfriend - maybe she could help set him up with someone? Not that she was much of a matchmaker, but the boy was nice and it would be interesting to try. | |

| Carmen needed to say something now, but what? The weather would be lame, so he chose the second lamest thing. "Are there really giant squid in the lake?" he asked, gesturing vaguely at the water. | |

| Annalise made a noise of alarm. "Giant squid?!" No one mentioned a giant squid in the lake! God, was- er, 'gods', this really was a Hogwarts ripoff, wasn't it? What if if had killed her when she was swimming? This school was a deathtrap. | |

| Crap, he hadn't meant to scare the daylights out of her. "There might not be any, I just heard there was one. It's probably just a rumor," he hastily corrected himself. He should have picked the weather instead. At least that wasn't too frightening. | |

| Annalise resisted the urge to ran and rave because seriously what was wrong with this place. She didn't though, she gripped the dock and sighed, shaking herself slightly. "No, it's fine, don't worry about it. You just never know with this place." She grimaced slightly, pushing some rust-rest bangs back. | |

| "Yeah, it's pretty..." Pretty... um... pretty... pretty... Annalise was really, really pretty, but that saying that would definitely slap him with a 'socially inept' label. As if he wasn't already walking around with that practically written in bold letters on his forehead. "... interesting." There, he finally found a word. | |

| Annalise reached her arms up, stretching as she thought about what to say next. This was definitely a stilted conversation. Maybe he'd been bullied for being gay and it had pulled him into a shell that left him- no, no that was an ABC Family movie, right... "So, ah, where are you from? Around here?" That was okay to ask, right? | |

| "Not really. I grew up in Greece. Not the country, the town over in Monroe county." He always had to clarify that it wasn't Greece Greece. Just the sixth safest town in America. It was actually probably such a safe place because Carmen tended to lurk in places that villains also liked to hang out, and when you pull a sword on a mortal, it tends to look like a gun. | |
